February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, from Schwartz Orthodontics

Each February for the past 61 years, the American Dental Association (ADA) has sponsored National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

For kids wearing braces, brushing and flossing can become more difficult, requiring extra time and vigilance to remove food particles that accumulate on and between the teeth and in braces.

If the health of your teeth is ignored during treatment with braces, the results can be significantly compromised. Dr. Schwartz is available and happy to explain why effective brushing and flossing is one of the most critical actions needed from patients during orthodontic treatment. Have you visited us lately? 2011 Bookmark Contest Winner

The Delmarva Shorebirds, class “A” affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, have officially kicked off the 2011 “Hit the Books” reading program. The program is designed to encourage children all across the Eastern Shore to read outside of the classroom. The Shorebirds have partnered with Schwartz Orthodontics and Sylvan Learning Center in order to organize and execute this program.

Sharon, Office Manager with Schwartz Orthodontics honored Yumin-Jeong of Bennett Middle School for winning the Bookmark Contest. “Schwartz Orthodontics is extremely excited to partner with the Delmarva Shorebirds for the program, “Hit the Books,” said Dr. Carrie Schwartz. “We look forward to rewarding the students as they reach their reading goals. We believe that education through literature leads to good oral hygiene and dental health."

Children from participating schools were asked to submit a bookmark design for the Hit the Books program. Each child will receive a bookmark featuring Jeong’s winning design, pictured left.

Hit the Books Program

Over 40,000 students in over 100 schools participate in “Hit the Books” program. For this reason the program has evolved into one of the biggest programs on the Eastern Shore.

Each child that reads four books outside of the classroom receives two free tickets to a Shorebird game during the 2011 season. Be sure to come out and help celebrate with Schwartz Orthodontics.

Schools will be notified shortly as to when their night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium will be. The students will be recognized at the stadium during a pregame ceremony where each child will have the unique opportunity to parade around the field. Come and hang out with us and join in the fun!!!!
